Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai!
Kia Ora everyone!

We at Tai Tokerau Trades Training hope you all enjoyed the School Holidays and feel fresh and rejuvenated!
As our country celebrated our first year of Matariki being a national celebration and fitting with Matariki, we have a Whakatauki to share with you all.

"Tukua kia tū takitahi ngā whetū o te rangi"
"Let each star in the sky shine its own light"

We, as a whanau, are continuously working on letting our Ākonga, our 'stars', shine their light and reach their highest potential!
We look forward to the coming term and working with you all to help, nurture and guide the stars of Te Tai Tokerau.
New Whanau mahi
We have excellent news regarding our whanau mahi at Tai Tokerau Trades Training!
This time we are hugely excited to welcome a new Vocational Coordinator to our EEB team, Kealii Leuluai.
Kealii is very keen to take on his new role. He cannot wait to meet and interact with you, and we hope you welcome him.

Kia ora,
My name is Keali’i Leuluai,
I was born in Auckland but raised in Whangaruru. I grew up in the north and have my feet planted firmly in its ground.
It was only recently I discovered my passion, and that is to help young people recognise and achieve their goals in whatever field they may be in. I believe there are many ways to succeed in life, and this mahi will allow me to open those doors for our young people and help them along their journey.
I am grateful for this opportunity to be involved with Tai Tokerau Trades Training and am excited to get out into the community and mahi.
Whanua mahi spotlight
Tai Tokerau Trades Training is proud to announce that our fabulous Manager - Business Development and Strategic Projects, Roimata Haika, has recently been appointed as a member of the NCEA Pathways Panel.
The NCEA Pathways Panel’s role is to advise on the development of new products and implementation plans for NCEA changes in terms of their impact on pathways. This will include:
1. Shaping the guidelines for developing the Review of Achievement Standards (RAS) products
2. Highlighting potential barriers for end-users as products for the change package are developed and implemented and advising how these barriers could be mitigated
3. Sample checking and providing quality assurance as products for the change package are developed to ensure systems and products are fit for purpose.

We are proud of this appointment and know Roimata will significantly contribute to this space. Over the last two years, Roimata has led our Education to Employment Brokerage Service team (EEB) in delivering this service across Te Tai Tokerau. We know that our service is very successful, and we attribute it primarily to the knowledge, passion, commitment and consideration Roimata has put into leading this project and developing a solid team around her with excellent products and delivery. (This is on top of leading other significant projects/programmes that Tai Tokerau Trades Training has been involved with simultaneously!). Well done.

We look forward to seeing the contribution that Roimata makes to this kaupapa.
Nga mihi nui ki a koe Roimata

Tools of the Trade 2022
On the 1st of July 2022, Tai Tokerau Trades Training had the pleasure of running a ‘Tools of the Trades’ event at Kamo High School.
The Tool's of the Trade is an event where industry employers and representatives in different trades such as Plumbing, Electrical, Automotive, and Construction trades come into the school and run 20-minute workshops introducing students to a bit of hands-on work that comes with their specific trade.
The students rotate between the workshops getting to experience all the different types of work and tools that the different trades offer.
The Tools of the Trade event allowed the student to dabble in different trades they may have had little knowledge about and even pick up some spot prizes along the way!!
It was incredibly heart-warming to see all the students interacting and engaging with the workshops and employers with such enthusiasm and a sense of keenness to learn during the day!

Below are some excellent percentage increases identified from the before and after surveys each student who attended the event completed. The increase in confidence from just this one event is extremely inspiring. It helps us identify whether what we do is effective for the ākonga we are supporting – and it is quickly apparent that we are on the right track!

GATEWAY / SCHOOL RESOURCES
Transitions from secondary school
Transitions from secondary school is a foundational piece of research about one of the critical groups served by the TEC. It provides a deep and rich understanding of how school leavers decide what to do when they leave school. We can support akonga to make educated decisions when investigating their future pathways.
We found this research very informative and helpful. It shows that we must step up and support akonga to reach their full potential and future aspirations.
Hito

Rangatahi Futures
Rangatahi Futures is a youth career education programme that reflects the identity, language, and culture of Māori learners, and supports them to explore key career understandings in culturally affirming ways.

The Rangatahi Futures programme supports teachers to deliver culturally responsive career education to Māori learners. We find the power in storytelling to be very effective in delivering key information to akonga.

Our team want to express our gratitude
The Education to Employment Brokerage Team from Tai Tokerau Trades Training would like to extend our tremendous thanks to the five industries that supported our school event this July; without your support, these events would not be possible. We hope that the community can utilise these businesses in any future endeavours.
